Do you have any suggestions for fishing Clarks Hill/Lake Thurmond?

Question:
I would like to fish Clarks Hill/Lake Thurmond, but I have no idea about fishing this lake. Do you have any suggestions for bass? - Doug

Answer:
This lake is a clear lake with a lot of rock points and hard bottom, however it does have submerged vegetation, the main forage is a bait fish called blueback herring the bass love to corral these bait up and feed on the surface, a fast way to find these fish is to throw a top water such as a Sammy or a local bait called Pencil Popper (you can buy them at local tackle shop) other good baits are flukes and brown jigs. I would look at points and humps you can find these on the lake maps. The closer to the dam you are the more clear the water is as you work up the creeks the water becomes more stained. Much of where to catch fish depends on the time of year you are going. Look for fish schooling on top, also I would go to the local tackle shop and look at the live bait to see what the blueback looks like.

Good luck
