What are the optimum locations for mounting my sonar transducer and gps receiver?
I am considering the purchase of a new sonar/gps system. I was wandering what would the optimum locations for mounting the transducer and gps receiver? Do you lose sensitivity / signal strength by mounting the transducer in the hull versus on the back of the transom. I mostly fish deeper clear water lakes, will it make much difference?

Answer:
I mount my front unit transducer on the trolling motor and i also mount the dash unit transducer in the hull. But that will not work if you have an aluminum boat it needs to be on the outside of the boat because the transducer wont go through metal. The GPS antenna on your unit needs to be close to the transducer. In other words don't put your antenna next to your unit if it is several feet from your transducer. Here is why. When you find a brush pile on your graph as you are idling along a bank and you want to mark it remember this when you mark a waypoint it marks it at the antenna as it is the receiver from the satellites. So if you are looking at your graph and you see a brush pile then you hit waypoint what you saw is seen from the transducer but waypointed at the antenna so this can be several feet apart.
