What should I do when the water temp drops quickly?
James Niggemeyer
I recently traveled over 700 mi. to fish Lake Fork TX. Weather was great at 82 deg. w/ water temp of 67 in protected coves and 57 on main lake. After a cold front came in air temp dropped to 37. What should I have done to catch the bass that were on the bed and suddenly disappered? Wind picked up to 30mph and 5 in. of rain in next 3 days. Out of 5 days the first 2 were worth the trip with 6 bass over 5 lbs. and another 6 over 4 lbs.

Sounds like things were going great til the front got there! That is one of the more challenging conditions to be confronted with. Typically I will switch my focus from those spawming fish to pre-spawn and fish Stike King spinnerbaits and Red Eye sad lipless crankbaits in and around grass and wood. You would probably have to move from pockets to points and outside more main lake flats for them. Slow roll the spinnerbaits and rip the lipess crankbaits from the grass.
Good luck!
