Football jigs were originally designed to fish rocky structure, the wide design of the head gives it an enticing action when dragged over rocks, but fisherman have experimented with the football jig and it has been proven to be effective in all types of structure including brush piles, trees, ledges, grass, and soft bottoms. The key is the bulk of the jig creating a big disturbance on the bottom, therefor attracting the attention of the fish. As far as the best time to use a football jig, prime times are spring and fall but they have produced tournament wins at all times of the year. The football jig is a crawdad imitator and as we all know this is one of the preferred meals of bass.
